My Week on TV - 02/20/2011

House s07e12: You Must Remember This

Okay, so I really enjoyed this week's episode of House.  There was genuine conflict, particularly between House and Wilson. It wasn't necessarily a negative conflict, though Wilson probably saw it that way.  House was, in his own way, showing how he cares about Wilson and wanted him to be happy -- and it was vital that this happiness was not accompanied by a cat.  So I was quite impressed with the secondary storyline -- it was unfortunate that Wilson was unable to take that girl home, but at the same time it's good that he doesn't let House pressure him.  And of course  the 10-day allocation for Wilson to get over his ex-wife was cute and very House-like.

As for the main storyline, I wasn't a big fan.  The girl was quite simply a bitch.  I understand that there is no way for someone else to know how she feels or understand her line of thought, but still.  And I also understand that this was the whole point of the story -- not even House could understand the woman or influence her to make decisions.  And her inability to forgive her sister was rather inhuman.  I can see how she would weigh the positives and the negatives, but there are factors that should be taken into account that are not logical or deductible -- love, perhaps?  Does the fact that they share the same blood mean nothing?

I don't know.  The episode was well-written and certainly an intriguing case, but I just didn't like the patient.  Frankly, if she's so miserable, why not just let her die?

And did she take the damn pills at the end or not?!? I find it quite annoying when they don't reveal things like that.

Glee s02e13: Comeback

Hated it. HATE HATE HATE.  I just did not like anything about this episode.  Yes, they even did a RENT song and I can't get over how much I hated this episode.  I won't lie -- Rachel and Mercedes' version of Take Me or Leave Me was good (though certainly not as good as the original), but there was not a single other thing that I liked.

  1. Bieber? REALLY? Please just kill me.  And TWO songs?  I just about died.  And the girls?  Oh my god I wanted to kill them all -- fawning over the boys like that because they can sing a not-all-that-great song by a crappy artist?  Whoopie.  And I was so proud of Finn for not conforming and then you know what he did? HE CONFORMED! ARGIHOERHSAKDERKO!
  2. Now as for Sue.  I don't even know where to start.  First of al, her choice of an anthem was rather crappy in my opinion.  The song had no climax, no excitement, no anything.  All it had was a rather boring and monotonous melody and harmony.  And what bugs me the most is that not a single voice was highlighted -- not even Rachel's! They all sang the same words at the same time with slightly different pitches.  It sucked.
  3. Going back to the anthem thing -- how exactly was this an 'anthem' episode.  None of those songs were anthems! And I realize that Sue made that point before their performance together, but still.  This is the first time that I truly felt that the music in the episode was greatly detached from the plot.

And then of course there's Sue's choice to become the head of Oral Intensity.  Really?  I don't think that they could have ruined the story any worse than that.  And this means that Regionals are going to be a load of crap -- there will be three competitors:

  1. New Directions
  2. Oral Intensity
  3. Warblers

And only two of the three teams will place and move onto Nationals.  New Directions obviously has to go (at least I think so -- I doubt Sue will give them another freebie and otherwise the club would be over).  And that means that we either get Sue continuing on, which would enable the conflict to continue, or the Warblers continue on.  If the Warblers don't make it, then Kurt and Blaine will essentially leave the storyline, which seems unlikely since Blaine was recently named as a full-time part of the show.
So out of this I see two possible outcomes that I would be happy with, however unlikely they may be.

  1. Sue realizes that she's essentially joining the enemy -- becoming a glee club director when she's always hated them?  Not quite her cup of tea.  And then she will hopefully drop out of the competition, leaving someone else to be the head of Oral Intensity.
  2. Kurt and Blaine transfer to William McKinley.  I know, this is so unlikely that I don't even know why I bother saying it.  But it still has some merit -- Kurt is becoming more comfortable with himself, particularly with his newfound 'relationship' with Blaine.  And with Karofsky kind of being more comfortable with Glee, he might be less bullying towards Kurt.
I realize how unlikely this is, but (at least so far) I can't think of any other way for Kurt and Blaine to stay in the show if Sue should place in Regionals.  I don't know.  It's just confusing.

All in all, I really didn't like this episode.  And the next one doesn't look too great either -- the entire club has a party and gets wasted?  Where does that idea even come from?!

Big Bang Theory s04e16: The Cohabitation Formulation

Now I normally won't be commenting on BBT, but I thought that this past week's episode was really cute.

  1. Sheldon was a minor character, though still amusing in the few lines that he had.
  2. As for Wolowitz, he was kind of just a jerk.  As much as I appreciate them giving him a girlfriend for the last season or so, I really hope she breaks up with him soon.  I mean, how sexist can you be?
  1. Leonard was adorable, and I'm happy that he got together with Priya -- and the fact that it annoyed Koothrappali was just the icing on the cake.
  1. Poor Koothrappali spent the entire episode forbidding everything that Leonard and Priya did together.  My favorite part was at the end when Sheldon was eating with Penny she asked where everyone else was.  After learning that Leonard and Priya went to Catalena for the weekend, she asked where Raj was and Sheldon said "At home, forbidding it."  Definitely one of my favorites lines from the show!
  1. And then poor Penny -- she was eventually shown to be upset about Leronard's new relationship and Amy was just amazing as her best friend.

It was truly a great episode -- wonderfully written and performed.  Can't wait until the next one!

Castle s03e15: The Final Nail

So there's not really much to say about Castle.  This episode was good, and I really liked how Castle rebelled against the team in trying to prove his friend's innocence.  I'm not saying that I agree with him defying the police department, because most of the time they're right and it's good that he sticks by them and their decisions, but this time it certainly seemed right.  And I'm actually glad that the guy was then accused of killing his father -- while the main murder case in the episode ended up being someone other than Castle's friend, there was a certain relief that came with Castle accepting that his mentor wasn't the perfect and amazing and opportunistic guy that he seemed to be -- he had killed his father long before this current case was even opened.  Castle was able to accept that and move on, even though that included turning his friend over to the police -- he had to feel bad since it was his fault that the case was reopened, but he did the right thing by turning the guy in.

Now PLEASE.  As much as I love this series, there is only so much tension that can continue between Castle and Beckett -- they seriously need to just get together already!

That is all.

The Mentalist s03e15: Red Gold

Like Castle, there's really not much to say about this show.  This episode followed the normal routine -- murder, assumptions by Jane, trickery by Jane, case solved by Jane, etc.  I'm just not-so-patiently waiting for a couple more Red John episodes to pop up.  It's actually been awhile since there's been one, and the show is getting rather redundant.  The fast that this show has a plot line that flows through numerous episodes is awesome, particularly in the originality of the events, but they actually need to continue that plot every so often -- Red John has to come to an end sooner or later, doesn't he?

Jeopardy

And last but not least I have one last comment on the week's special Jeopardy episodes...

Watson was awesome!
