Where do I live again?

So I've lived in the Maryland-DC area for all but 2 years of my life, and I've come to realize that I've seen very little of what there is to see around here.  I've been lucky enough to live in the middle of so much history with Annapolis (the original US capital), Baltimore (one of the first major ports in the US), and DC (the current US capital), and I've seen so little of it all! There's so much history and tradition and I'm missing out on it.

Now, one thing about living in this area is that in grade school, we took field trips to cities.  That's all we did.  Field trip?  Going to Baltimore.  Field trip? Going to DC.  I've seen just about every museum and every zoo in the area (apart from the National Spy Museum...I want to go there so badly!).

So I guess that as I was growing up I felt that I was experiencing all there was to see, but now I realize how much more there is. And so, I've made a list of the major things that I want to do in this area before I inevitably leave.

Washington D.C.

1) Visit the monuments.  I've never seen the Lincoln Monument! Or gotten all that close to the Washington Monument! I want to take a day-trip to DC and just wander through all of the monuments.  I feel like that's something that everyone should experience.
2) Historic Georgetown.  I've been here once, but it was on a shopping trip with my mom and aunt, so I didn't really get to see and experience much.
3) Kennedy Center.  I'VE NEVER BEEN HERE. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?! Pretty much, I really need to see this place! Grwadagvepetwhwg.
4) Mount Vernon.  I'm not gonna lie...part of why I want to go here is so that I can pretend that I'm investigating long-forgotten tunnels with the President and Nicholas Cage...
5) White House.  Yeah...I've seen it (of course), but I've never done a tour, and I've always wanted to.  Unfortunately, they only let you see 8 of the 132 or so rooms in the place, but it still seems like one of those experiences that's done more for the meaning that for the sights.  I respect and feel complete awe for our government and those who control it.
6) Library of Congress.  I just want to go here to get some pictures...it's lame, I know.  I want to just see all of those books...and then I'll be done.  Trivia:  Did you know that if something were to happen to the current Library of Congress, McKeldin Library on the University of Maryland campus would become the next one? How cool is that?!
7) Cherry Blossom Festival. Once again, I am in despair.  I've never been to the Cherry Blossom Festival...which is just sad.

Baltimore:

1) M&T Bank Stadium.  Yeah.  I've never been to the home of my favorite sports team.  It's sad. go Ravens!
2) Camden Yards.  Kind of like M&T Bank Stadium, I want to see the home of my baseball team! Yes, the Orioles kind of fail right now, but they're still my team :)
3) Maryland Science Center.  I've been here a bunch...but not since like 5th grade.  So I want to go back and see how things have changed and be able to really experience everything.
4) Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.  I've seen them a few times, but only ever on a trip with one of my orchestras.  I'd like to be able to choose a show and just go watch/listen to it.  I enjoy things like that.

Other MD:
1) Antietam National Park.  Yes, Maryland is home to the land on which the bloodiest and most deadly battle of the Civil War was fought.  I would like to go there and see what there is to see, as well as pay my respects to those who fell.
Going along with Antietam, I want to see all of the national parks in MD, as well as in other states.  I don't think that people realize how important and beautiful these parks are, and I intend to see as many of them as I can in my lifetime.

So that's my plan for now.  There's a lot more that I want to see, but these are the major ones.  What about you guys?  Any tourism plans?

  1. I smell a roadtrip! (Well, mini-roadtrips.) You wouldn't believe how much there is to see. Bill and I were in D.C. for 4 days. 4 days! And we still didn't get through all of the monuments, memorials, and museums. I've never even seen the White House in person let alone been in side of it.

But yeah, we should go together. You should go with me next week for the Cherry Blossoms Festival.

  2. Definitely go to the Cherry Blossom Festival? I mean I don't know if I've been for the actual FESTIVAL, but I've been at peak cherry blossom time and it's beautiful. Do itttt. And I am definitely all for exploring DC a lot more, (and Baltimore), 'cause I'm lacking too!

So when I get backkkk. Maybe this summer we can do some trips? So don't go everywhere now! (not that that's even possible)

  3. We should get a bunch of people to go to like the O's games. They're not that expensive and it's a good way to hang out during the summer nights. I've been a bunch of times, primarily when the Yankees are in town.

Football tickets are holy crap expensive, it kind of sucks. I would love to go to real game and scream with other people and not just at my TV.

If you go to the Spy museum, I want to go too.

    Oh, and go Steelers! :P

  4. This whole Spy Museum is a great idea. I loved it when I went with Karl. It's fun stuff. That should definitely be a separate trip.

  6. We should plan on that soon. Just so I could take off of work. As of right now, I will be working every day but will be taking half a day off. Maybe I should take every Wednesday off...?

  7. I agree! This summer will actually be fun if this stuff happens!

You should take off more than one day. Like a weekend day...

  8. haha, you guys know that I can't take off on weekends that often. Wednesday is the best time to take off. Plus, weekdays should be easier for everybody to take off, isn't it?

  9. I dunno. I'm not exactly sure how my summer is going to pan out with DOTS. But I can definitely find out. And I'm sure we'll be able to plan some awesome trips!
